sans papiers rue charlot

LA LUTTE DES SANS PAPIERS

Tonight as I was photographing the streets of in the marais at night, i came across a really fab art installation with a powerful and moving message on the corner of rue Charlot / rue de Bretagne.

There is an entire external wall of a building covered with colour images of people (french) photographed with their identity card or passport standing next to a person with the status of a "sans papiers" (a person without papers).

The prerequisite to be photographed with a "sans papiers" (they are striking in the location where the photo is taken) is to present one's passport or identity card.

DH Lawrence on the infinite forms of love

'Well, do you know,' said the Major, 'it seems to me there is really only one supreme contact, the contact of love. Mind you, the love may take on an infinite variety of forms. And in my opinion, no form of love is wrong, so long as it is love, and you yourself honour what you are doing. Love has an extraordinary variety of forms! And that is all that there is in life, it seems to me. But I grant you, if you deny the variety of love you deny love altogether. If you try to specialize love into one set of accepted feelings, you wound the very soul of love. Love must be multi-form, else it is just tyranny, just death.'

From DH Lawrence's novella, THE LADYBIRD, set at the end of WWI in London. Published 1923.

paris - blue summer evening sky

Back in Paris today and took some photographs for an Australian Magazine, which I am sending off tonight.

There is something so beautiful about the long summer nights and the 'blue' sky that hangs in until well after 10pm... even in mid August..

Robert is our neighbour and safeguarder of the village's knowledge system. He's a favourite - has a warm, giant wide heart + he can fix anything.

Everyone who comes to the village, always drop by to see Robert and give him news: the world comes to him. He never got a driver's licence, so travels around on his tractor or mobilette. He's made himself the living soul of the place, with a load of local knowledge.

The first time he invited me for breakfast after we had taken out his animals, he offered me wine, bread and cheese. I had never had wine on an empty stomach... I felt sick all day.
